Swiss Army Mountaineer Blanket
The Swiss Army Mountaineer Blanket represents the pinnacle of wool camp blankets. Blankets like these were originally produced for the Swiss Army from the late nineteenth century through the 1960s. Renowned for their warmth and durability, they were a staple for the Swiss people and became highly sought after once production was halted. Numerous inexpensive, poor quality imitations have been made, most with undesirable wool mixes from unknown origins.
The Helko Werk Swiss Army Mountaineer is a high quality rendition of the original, made 100% from fine Australian wool. Utmost care and attention have been given to quality, comfort, and durability. Australia is an undisputed producer of the world's finest, most desirable wool. Gathered from compassionate and sustainable sheep farms, this wool will outperform most other wools, including wool blends and synthetics. Original Swiss Army blankets showed their maker's marks and initials in the lower corner of the blanket. Our blankets are marked with "HW 1844", representing Helko Werk and the year the company was founded.
This product comes with vegetable tanned leather bedroll straps with adjustable shoulder straps.
The blankets are made from 100% Australian Fine wool. This is not Merino wool from the Merino sheep. This comes from an Australian species of sheep that produce a very fine and soft wool that does not itch, and has excellent moisture wicking and breathing properties. It is similar to Merino wool, but is fuller in volume.
Cleaning
This blanket should be treated like any other wool blanket or pure wool product. It can be washed by hand, or on a delicate/gentle cycle in cold water. Do not use regular laundry detergent, as that will strip the wool of its natural oil properties. Use a wool cleaner. Hang dry. Do not use heat to dry wet wool.
