Using our Swiss Army blanket, we took the pinnacle of wool camp blankets and have recreated it into something even better: the Swiss Army Mountaineer Poncho. At camp, this is the frontiersman's best friend. As a rendition, these blankets were originally produced for the Swiss Army from the late nineteenth century through the 1960s. Renowned for their warmth and durability, they were a staple for the Swiss people and became highly sought after once production was halted. 


The Helko Werk Swiss Army Mountaineer is a high quality rendition of the original, made 100% from fine Australian wool. Utmost care and attention have been given to quality, comfort, and durability. Australia is an undisputed producer of the world's finest, most desirable wool. Gathered from compassionate and sustainable sheep farms, this wool will outperform most other wools, including wool blends and synthetics. Original Swiss Army blankets showed their maker's marks and initials in the lower corner of the blanket. Our blankets are marked with "HW 1844", representing Helko Werk and the year the company was founded.


The 6oz. cowhide leather buckle strap around the neck is adjustable for securing the poncho around the shoulders.


The ponchos are made from 100% Australian Fine wool. This comes from an Australian species of sheep that produce a very fine and soft wool that does not itch, and has excellent moisture wicking and breathing properties. It is similar to Merino wool, but is fuller in volume.  


Cleaning

This blanket should be treated like any other wool blanket or pure wool product. It can be washed by hand, or on a delicate/gentle cycle in cold water. Do not use regular laundry detergent, as that will strip the wool of its natural oil properties. Use a wool cleaner. Hang dry. Do not use heat to dry wet wool, it must be air dried.
